Diplomatic and Academic authorities from El Salvador strengthened ties with the PUCV

In agreement with its 2023-2029 Institutional Strategic Development Plan, the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso continues to move forward with determination in its purpose of strengthening collaboration networks that will consolidate its position at international level.

Within this context, this week the University received a delegation formed by diplomats and representatives from various universities from El Salvador. Visitors held meetings with PUCV authorities led by rector Nelson Vásquez and walked through the different campuses to explore opportunities for academic cooperation with our institution.

Rector Vásquez explained that the delegation chose to visit Chile “because they have a high opinion of our country’s higher education system”. He added that “they come from an academic benchmarking exercise, from a formative program in their country that includes visits to universities. On this occasion, they showed special interest in getting to know our university management practice, since they plan to move forward in joint work agreements with the PUCV”.

The Salvadoran committee was comprised by the ambassador of El Salvador in Chile, Mauricio Peñate; the minister counselor, Astrid Portillo; the executive director of the Accreditation Committee of Quality Education, Ángel Cartagena; the Rector of the Specialized Engineering School ITCA FEPADE, Carlos Arriola; the Rector of the Specialized Institute of Higher Education, Federico Harrison; and the general manager of the Evangelical University of El Salvador, Mario Parrillas.

The Academic Vicerector of the Universidad Andrés Bello of El Salvador Eduardo Umanzor also participated along to the secretary general of the Salvadoran University Alberto Masferrer, Julio Rivas; the dean of the Economics and Social Sciences Faculty at the Universidad de Sonsonate, Fernando Rodríguez; and the adviser to the rectory of the Universidad Francisco Gavidia, Juan Manual Muñoz.

Representing the PUCV, the delegation was welcomed by Rector Nelson Vásquez; the Grand Chancellor, Monsignor Jorge Vega; Vice Grand Chancellor, fray Cristián Eichin ofm; Vicerector of Research, Creation and Innovation, Luis Mercado; Academic Vicerector, Claudia Mejías; Vicerector of Development, Jorge Mendoza; Vicerector of Administration and Finances, Alex Paz; general director of International Affairs, Orlando de la Vega; and the president of the Academic Chapter, Fernando Torres, among others.

During the event, the committee visited the Schools of Electric Engineering, Journalism, Business and Economy, Education and Physical Education, in addition to the Ocean Sciences and Geography Faculty and the Curauma Biotechnology Nucleus.
