Immersive Cosmic Experience: Launching of Virtual Reality journey throughout the Universe

Viernes 29 de agosto de 2025

Our university launched the “VT Immersive Cosmic Experience” together with regional and university authorities. This project is carried out by the Science Faculty and the schools of Journalism, Architecture and Design and Civil Engineering, and offers an unprecedented proposal in our country: an astronomic adventure that allows to travel throughout the Universe as never before, with virtual reality headsets thanks to 360° technology.

Funded by the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, through the “Public Science” program, and with the collaboration of the Santiago Severín Library, the university invites to participate of the experience that will take place at the Auditorium at the Curauma Campus (Avenida Universidad 330, Curauma, Valparaíso). This will be free of cost and will be available with prior registration between September 1 and November 13.

The Regional Ministry Secretary of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation of the Central Macrozone, Rodrigo González, stated that “through Public Science and a good execution, we can reach people, so they understand the work of scientists”. In this context, he invited the regional community to “feel the science and make it a part of them”.

Along the same line, Jacqueline Páez, Vicerector of Community Relations, emphasized the relevance of this project at the university, regional and national Levels: “This is a space that can have a fostering role for various boys, girls and teenagers in the educational system, since it’s an experience that hopefully everyone can have, and we expect to reach those spaces and provide these opportunities. The challenge is great, but the product that we are experiencing today is the result of the advanced human capital of our institution”.

The Vicerector of Research, Creation and Innovation, Luis Mercado, highlighted the relevance of the activity and its impact on people through the promotion of scientific and technological potentialities of our country, specifically in the field of astronomy. He noted that “public science is precisely the connection that we establish as an institution of higher education, as a university where we do research and train people. Through science and technology, we can go further”.

For his part, the Dean of the Science Faculty, Manuel Bravo, commented that as a university “we are very happy, it’s a wonderful experience. If someone comes to this activity, they will not only take a memory with them, but a full 360° experience, that in addition expresses all the knowledge available about different realities of the world that surrounds us”.

The project is thought for people of all ages, combining scientific dissemination, visual impact and entertainment. Likewise, it offers the unique opportunity to learn and be amazed at the same time. Registration is open and a place can be reserved through the following link: https://linktr.ee/ECI_VR.
