Between September 9 and November 26, the 8th version of the International Early Music Festival “Sound Mosaic” will take place, an encounter that will gather renown musicians and scholars specialized in Renaissance and Baroque repertoire.
The program includes must-see concerts and an open conference in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar. These activities are geared towards both students and the general public, to bring them closer to the richness of early music through its practices, instruments and repertoires.
Cristina Gutiérrez, professor at the PUCV Music Institute and director of the festival, noted that “we have attempted to recreate how a popular ball would have been during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In order to do this, we have the presence of important musicians and scholars, who will share repertoire, instruments and practices pertaining to early music, to students and general public”.
Gutiérrez also indicated that the concerts will be performed on historical instruments, by groups that specialize in early music, and announced the news for 2025.
“In this edition, we will present a broad repertoire that covers music from the colonial period, as well as the Renaissance and Baroque. We will present shows that combine various artistic expressions, such as poetry and dance which, together with music, will transport the listener to an earlier age. In addition, in collaboration with the Early Music Festival of the USACH (FIMA), we will have vocal and instrumental music performed by groups and soloists from Australia, Switzerland and France.
The “Sound Mosaic” has become a cultural space that allows the promotion of early music in the Region of Valparaiso and projects a dialogue between interpretation and academic research.
