European Commission's Coronavirus response and research actions

The European Commission is coordinating a common European response to the outbreak of COVID-19. The EC aims to reinforce the public health sectors and mitigate the socio-economic impacts in the European Union.

In terms of research, seventeen projects were shortlisted in a €47.5 million special Horizon 2020 call. More recently, the Commission offered up to €80 million of financial support to scale up the development and production of a vaccine against the Coronavirus. 

In parallel, the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) launched a €45 million call on coronavirus entitled Development of therapeutics and diagnostics combatting coronavirus infections. CONFAP invite Brazilian State Funding Agencies to co-fund Brazilian participation.

Horizon 2020 calls extensions & Consequences for MSCA projects and related activities

The recent escalation of restrictions related to the COVID-19 outbreak may hamper Horizon 2020 applicants’ ability to prepare and finalise high-quality proposals. For this reason, extensions will be applied for calls with original deadlines between 17 March and 15 April 2020.

There will also be mobility restrictions for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) projects and related activities.

[Brazil-France] French Embassy in Brazil offers scholarships to Brazilian students in Master 2 programmes in France

With the aim of improving the conditions for receiving and welcoming Brazilian students in France, the French Embassy in Brazil will offer partial funding for students of Brazilian nationality admitted in the second year of Master 2 (M2) programmes in a French higher education institution.

[Brazil, only eligible country in LAC] Call in Germany: German Chancellor Fellowship for tomorrow's leaders (AvH Foundation)

The Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Foundation is searching for university graduates from Brazil, China, India, Russia, and the USA. The German Chancellor Fellowship offers prospective decision-makers, multipliers and thought leaders an opportunity to take the next career step in Germany, irrespective of their field of work. It will support an one-year self-developed project within a host institution in Germany.
