Studies, Bachelor’s Degree Exam and Degree

The Law Bachelor’s Degree is a five-year programme, that includes a final dissertation. Before obtaining the Bachelor’s degree in Legal Science, students are required to sit the bachelor’s degree exam.

Students are also required to complete a professional internship at the Corporación de Asistencia Judicial (the state agency for legal assistance), which lasts 6 months, and can be completed before or after the bachelor’s degree exam. Both these requirements need to be met for the Supreme Court to grant the Law degree, which enables to practice law.

The School also counts with exchange programs with several foreign universities, and invites foreign students to join its classrooms  (more information at www.dri.pucv.cl).

 

Study Program

The School of Law has a semiannual curriculum that lasts 10 semesters (5 years). Mandatory and optional subjects integrate this curriculum. Mandatory subjects consist on proper law disciplines (civil, procedural, constitutional, criminal, and economic law, among others), as well as subjects that seek to develop practical abilities or skills (oral litigation, oral and written communication, argumentation, mediation, among others).

Optional courses enrich the general training with a wide selection of current contents that are relevant in law (environmental, urban, canon, parliamentary and mining law, among others).

Fundamental formation courses offered by other University faculties consistent of different subjects are added to the curriculum to achieve an integral education (art, literature, languages, sciences, among others).

Students who are interested, also have the possibility to participate in social aid, community activities and student pastoral care. They also have access to a wide range of sports, including scuba diving, swimming, basketball, athletics, and football, among others.

During the course of their studies, students can participate in foreign exchange programs, which allows them to visit prestigious European, North American and Iberoamerican universities (Heidelberg University in Germany, Santiago de Compostela University in Spain, Autonomous University of Barcelona, also in Spain, Sciences Po, in Paris, France, University of Illinois in the U.S.A, and Sao Paulo University in Brazil, among others). These programs last an academic semester.

After finishing their studies, students must sit a final bachelor’s degree exam.
