Numerical Modeling and Soil Dynamics

The research area in Geotechnical Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering focuses its studies on the evaluation of the dynamic behavior of soils and rocks, as opposed to the demands of any civil work involving foundation projects, underground structures and containment, stability of inclines and slopes; among others. With the above, it seeks to contribute to the definition of criteria and concepts for the calculation and design of geotechnical projects, identifying the influence of the correct measurement of soils and rocks properties in the dynamic response analysis of any structure, considering the seismic reality of the country.

Hydrology and Hydraulics

Currently the area of research in Hydraulic Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering focuses its studies on hydrological modeling. The research topics developed include: precipitation-runoff and flood tracking models, stochastic hydrology, frequency analysis of multivariate extreme events, hydrological modeling uncertainty, hydroinformatics, sensitivity analysis, and optimization.

Resistance and Dynamics of Structures

The research area in Structural Engineering of the School of Civil Engineering focuses on the study and evaluation of the dynamic behavior of new and existing structures. This is done by studying the influence of aspects such as materiality, structural design and interaction with the foundation soil. The use of vibration reduction and dynamic response control technologies is also studied, as well as the development of structural damage evaluation tools, structural survey by means of non-destructive methods, and monitoring of structural status and identification of dynamic systems.
